Lieutenant Colonel Wise, Michael C.

Lieutenant Colonel Michael C. Wise became the 29th Professor of Military Science at Eastern Michigan University on 17 June 2010.  In his previous assignment, he was Senior Signal Observer Trainer for the Battle Command Training Program.  Lieutenant Colonel Wise was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Signal Corps from Kent State University in 1992.

Throughout his career, he has served in operational assignments in Germany, Bosnia, Iraq, and the United States.  

He commanded Headquarters and Alpha Company 369 Signal Battalion at Fort Gordon, Georgia from November 1997 to May 1999; later, he commanded the Toledo Recruiting Company from May 2001 to May 2004.

His principal staff assignments have been as the United States Army Europe Theater Frequency Manager; then later, as the Battalion Executive Officer for the 72nd Signal Battalion in Mannheim, Germany.

Lieutenant Colonel Wise holds a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership from Touro University International and a Bachelor of Arts in Design from Kent State University.  Lieutenant Colonel Wise is a graduate of the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.

Lieutenant Colonel Wise was a member of the All-Army Triathlon Team from 1997-2000 and competed in the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii in 2000.

CPT Rachael B. Smith took command of HHC, 406^th CSSB, United States Army Reserves, Ann Arbor, Michigan in August 2010. In her civilian capacity, CPT Smith is an Assistant Professor of Military Science and Leadership at Eastern Michigan University, Ypsilanti, Michigan.

CPT Rachael B. Smith was commissioned a 2^nd Lieutenant in the Military Intelligence Corps from the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York in 2001. Following the Military Intelligence Officer Basic Course, she was assigned on Active Duty as the Battalion S2 for 29^th Signal Battalion, 142^nd Signal Brigade at Fort Lewis, WA. From 2003 through 2006, she was assigned to 1^st Brigade/ 25^th Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team), also at Fort Lewis, Washington, where she served as an Analysis Platoon Leader in the Direct Support Military Intelligence Company, Rear Detachment Commander for the Reconnaissance, Surveillance, Targeting and Acquisition Squadron, and the Brigade Comptroller. In 2006, CPT Smith left Active Service, and moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan. In 2007, CPT Smith joined the Army Reserves as the S2 for the 406^th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion out of Ann Arbor, Michigan. From 2009-2010, CPT Smith volunteered for a one year Active Duty for Operational Support Deployment with I Corps to Baghdad, Iraq where she served as the Assistant United States Forces- Iraq, J2 Intelligence Planner.

CPT Smith is a graduate of the Military Intelligence Officer’s Basic Course, the Military Intelligence Captain’s Career Course (Reserve Component), the Joint Intelligence Combat Training Course, Anti-terrorism Course, Security Manager’s Course, Stryker Leadership Course, Asymmetric Warfare Course, the National Intelligence Familiarization Course, and Airborne School.

CPT Smith’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with M Device, Parachutist Badge, and the German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge Gold.

CPT Smith qualified for and competed in Collegiate Powerlifting Nationals, placing in the top six in 1999, 2000 and 2001. CPT Smith also qualified for and competed in Collegiate Mountain Biking Nationals in 1999.
